Okay but seriously
Stop saying that every show the US makes is shit and every show the UK makes is magical because it’s not true.
I do take issue with CBS doing a modern-day Sherlock Holmes show right after BBC’s Sherlock got big, but that said, Sherlock Holmes is not a new idea, and several US TV shows are based on the Holmes/Watson dynamic to varying extents because it works very well and people like it (House, Psych, Bones, etc).
They do seem to be taking it in a different direction, so it’s quite possible that they could tell the story in a new and interesting way. Let’s reserve judgment for when it actually airs eh?

Does the BBC do really awesome shows?
ABSOLUTELY.
But we tend to forget that in the US, we get the cherrypicked. The best. American TV does in fact make a handful of really good shows. We just have intimate first hand knowledge of all the other dreck that comes with it. There is in fact really bad British TV. It just doesn’t get airtime here.

I tend to have issue with American TV remakes of shows that have already been done but with essentially the same plots and concepts, and normally all they change is the actors… What’s wrong with showing the English version?

i don’t think the problem here is that the US makes shitty shows, it’s that the US takes UK shows & makes them shitty (best example Life on mars) when they could just buy the UK version, show it and be done with it. but wait that brings in less $
